This is an original framed painting of three 11th Century Destriers, rather than of the knights themselves. This is why the knights are only partly in the painting.
Much as I love all the pageantry and the romantic side of the medieval period, I cannot but wonder how it was for the horses involved? The battle field was not somewhere they would wanted, given the choice. So I have made the horses the heroes in my painting, looking glorious in their vivid colours, which I loved painting.
